Yeti Roadie 24 Cooler Review

Review about the new Yeti Roadie 24 Cooler

Hi and welcome to my Yeti Roadie 24 cooler review: Yeti Roadie 24 is the new updated model of one of the best-selling personal cooler that comes from the company Yeti and that is Yeti Roadie 20.

This newly redesigned cooler is what we have long expected from the YETI brand. But now let’s see what Yeti Roadie 24 has to offer and whether it really meets the expectations of the users.

Our Verdict

The Yeti Roadie 24 is a durable personal-sized cooler with astounding insulation regarding its size and also a practical shape for storing items of different sizes and contents. It is a thoroughly designed product that allows being used by one or two persons without a problem.

It has a webbing nylon strap handle with a plastic sliding grip a pair of webbing handles that offer comfort while transporting the cooler by two persons while its par of indented side handles allow any single person easy to carry it to the desired location.

Its height dimensions allow you to easily place two-liter bottles in an upright position like any wine bottle. As for its rigidity without any problem, you can sit on it or stand on it without causing any damage to its housing.

These are just some of the reasons why this cooler is on top of our recommendation when you need a cooler with compact dimensions such as Roadie 24. In a word, this is one of the best coolers for short adventures of one to two days and can keep the food and drinks safe to satisfy the needs of one couple.

What We Like

  • The newly designed so-called one-handed QUICKLATCHE latches
  • Additional space and better thermal performs than the outdated Yeti Roadie 20
  • New functional and comfortable carry handle
  • Great for weekends for two people
  • Sturdy and Durable

What We Don’t Like

  • It doesn’t feature a drain plug
  • The cooler doesn’t provide a complete hermetic closure
  • It is a little bit overpriced

Yeti Roadi 24 Hard Cooler Review

This rotomolded hard cooler like some of the hard coolers comes with one main webbing carrying handle and one pair of side indented handles, it has enough height, which is a little over 13 inches so you can comfortably store two-liter bottles of soda and also bottles of wine.

It offers enough interior space to accommodate enough food and drinks for two people for a weekend camp or to have a nice and fun refreshing hot day at the beach.

Its latches compared to its predecessor Roadie 20 have been upgraded in fact Roadie 24 has single-hand latches. For better stability, it has anti-slip feet and tie-downs.

Insulation

First of all, let’s see what the situation is when it comes to the isolation of the Yeti Roadie 24 Cooler. According to the company Yeti, the Yeti Roadie 24 has 20% better thermal protection than the outdated model Yeti Roadie 20. Also, the insulation capabilities of the Roadie 24 are 30% better than the Roadie 20.

So when it comes to storing food and beverages below 40 Fahrenheit, it makes sense for Roadie 24 to show better results. Namely, its result is 2.8 days, which is better than its predecessor where the result was 2.6 days.

And as for the temperatures below 50 Fahrenheit, it is a little more than three whole days, which will satisfy all weekend campers. This may not sound impressive to many, but the Roadie 24 surpasses almost all personal-sized coolers in its insulating performance.

These insulation results are not enough to beat the Igloo BMX 25 but are far better than the Pelican Elite 20 Quart. However, if you are a fan of the Yeti brand and really intend to buy the Yeti Roadie 24 but are looking for ways to increase its insulation capabilities you can try some of my best tips here. Also, you can learn how to use perfectly dry ice to increase the insulation capabilities of the Yeti Roadie 24.

As I said the Roadie 24 cooler has a solid rotomolded construction with thick walls filled with polyurethane insulation. Like the entire line of hard coolers from the Yeti, the Roadie 24 has a freezer-style rubber gasket and interlocking hinges.

But in the experience of many users of this cooler, its rubber gasket and interlocking hinges do not provide complete hermetic closure and it often happens that both water and air leak from the inside. In this part, Roadie does not meet the expectations of users.

Durability

Roadie 24 looks solid and robust, which at first glance gives you the feeling that it is a cooler that has a durable construction that is essentially true.

To get a good idea of the durability of this cooler I will repeat its construction is so sturdy that you can simply use it as an extra chair while camping or table and even climbing and standing on it or jumping on it, Roadie 24 will not show deformation of its construction. In a word, the toughness of the Roadie 24 can be compared to the toughness of its bigger and more popular brother Yeti Tundra 65 (Here you can read my detailed review about Yeti Tundra 65 cooler)

Also, the design of its Heftyhauler handle, which is actually a webbing plastic design and attached to the cooler with rotating plastic connecting slots, provides comfort and simplicity in its use.

But the disadvantage of this handle is that it is short and does not go over the shoulder, which somehow negatively affects the portability of the cooler. On the other hand, its pair of side recessed handles makes it easy for you to carry the cooler to any location.

The new design of Quicklatch latches not only looks simple, practical, and modern but they are very durable and above all easy to use. You can operate these latches without much effort with one hand.

Ease of Use

Ok, let’s now say something about whether this cooler is easy to use and what are its advantages when it comes to usability.

First, you will immediately notice its updated latches. The advantage of these latches over the old rubbered T-grip latches is that you do not need to use both hands to operate with them and they are simple to use.

The new QUICKLATCH latches offer flexibility, ease of use and hold the cooler lid tightly closed. And as I said before, to operate them you only need to use one hand without the use of force as was the case with the old T-grip latches on the outdated Yeti Roadie 20.

I should also mention that the old metal carry handle with a non-ergonomic rubber pad has been replaced with a webbing nylon strap version that has a movable plastic grip. While many users have complained about the non-functionality of the old metal carrying handle now I am sure they will be pleasantly surprised at the new handle with its webbing design that offers great comfort when used.

Another thing that is immediately noticeable at first glance is its dimension in height which is just over 13 inches. So thanks to this height you can comfortably store in the cooler large two-liter bottles as well as other types of bottles in an upright position. Otherwise, inside the Roadie 24, you can store about 18 cans of beer with a ratio of ice to can 2:1 or about 24 pounds (10.88 kg) ice only.

Also, a positive feature is that when you open the lid of this cooler it remains in an upright open position which was also characteristic of the outdated Roadie 20. However, the Roadie 24 cooler is easy to load and unload with a fairly satisfactory capacity for its class and is very easy to use.

But another thing that is really missing in this cooler is the drain plug. It may not be a disadvantage when you consider the small size and weight of the cooler; you can easily turn it over to drain the liquid from the inside. But having a drain plug would still be welcome by many users.

Portability

But how are things with the Yeti Roadie 24 when it comes to portability? First, it weighs almost 13 pounds (about 5.8 kg), which is 10% lighter than its predecessor Yeti Roadie 20 and can hold 20% more food and drink.

Its carrying handle is simple and comfortable to use and does not create pain. It has a plastic grip that moves easily, and it does not create pain on the hand which facilitates its use. However, while carrying the cooler with this webbing handle, it still hits your legs, which is typical for every hard cooler. While the side indented handles are very useful. By using them, you can easily move the cooler to a specific location without any problems.

But when we talk about the new design of the carrying handle there is one big drawback that I personally do not like and I believe that many users will be dissatisfied. That is the length of the handle; it is very short and does not allow you to put it over your shoulder for easier carrying of the cooler.

But the second set of side indented handles will allow you to easily carry the cooler with both hands to short distances.

Value

But is it worth investing in a Yeti Roadie 24? First of all, its price is a bit higher than the coolers in its class. However, considering its high strength and durability, then its size and shape that increases its portability, as well as its capacity with its above-average insulation Yeti Roadie 24 can still be an interesting choice for people who often need a hard personal cooler for weekend adventures or two-day beach parties.

Conclusion

At the end of this Yeti Roadie 24 cooler review it is obvious that if you are looking for the best-personalized size cooler, I think Yeti Roadie 24 is the perfect choice for you. It has all the features and characteristics for short-term adventures with your partner in nature, in a word Yeti Roadie 24 cooler is an ideal companion wherever you travel.
